Why Does God Allow Evil?

.

.

.

.

.

.

“Thus will I magnify myself,

and sanctify myself;

and I will be known in the eyes of many nations,

and they shall know that I am the LORD”

Ezekiel 38:23

.

.

.

.

.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:At_a_loss.svgPerhaps, the most commonly asked question by society, regarding the Bible, is this: “Why does God allow so much evil in the world? Why doesn’t He just stop it all?”

.

Well, certainly God could stop all the evil, if He chose to.

.

But obviously, God doesn’t stop it. At least, He doesn’t stop evil completely.

Psalm 76:10

.

This above verse from Psalm 76:10 reveals two great truths. First, we see here that mankind’s evil will ultimately praise God, even as is written…“The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.” Proverbs 25:3

.

Here is stated that God has revealed to us both the height of goodness, as seen in Heaven’s excellent ways. But He has also allowed this present Earth’s Antichrist world-system to show us the very depths of evil, as a contrast to Heaven’s goodness.

.

In other https://theheavensdeclare.net/sign-of-the-son-of-man-in-heaven/words, it is impossible to really appreciate the goodness of Heaven’s government, if there was nothing else to contrast it with. Therefore, God allowed this rebellious planet to continue, even as is written…

Thou (God) shalt have all the heathen in derision…

Slay them not, lest My people forget:

scatter them by thy power;

and bring them down, O Lord our shield.”

Psalm 59:8, 9

.

Yes, God could have annihilated Mankind, as well as the angels that sinned and fell from grace. But He didn’t, because He wanted His people to never forget the lessons they must learn regarding this evil world.

“And He shall judge the world in righteousness, He shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness”

Psalm 9:8

.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Book_of_Revelation_Chapter_9-1_%28Bible_Illustrations_by_Sweet_Media%29.jpgThis above verse from Psalm 9:8 speaks of God as the Supreme Judge. And as Judge, God cannot simply let this rebellious, lawless world completely “off the hook”, as the saying goes. There must be punishment for breaking the Law of God, even as is written…

“Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail:

let the heathen be judged in thy sight…

For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also:

and I will recompense them according to their deeds,

and according to the works of their own hands.”

Psalm 9:19 & Jeremiah 25:14

.

These two above verses from Psalm 9:19 & Jeremiah 25:14 go together nicely as they present the judgment of God for this world of sin, even as is written…”Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sins, it shall die.” Ezekiel 18:4

.

Yes, the wages of sin is death. And God has allowed this rebel planet to continue long enough to fully manifest our guilt and worthiness for death.

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord”

Luke 2:11

.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Crucifixiondarkness.jpgThis above verse from Luke 2:11 reveals another quality of God: that not only is He our divine Judge and Executioner, but He also is the Saviour of the world!

.

In other words, if God had simply destroyed this world, then all those inhabitants of the Heavens would have never known that God is a loving and merciful Saviour. They would have only known Him as a fearful and severe Judge!

.

But now we begin to understand the mercy of God, even as is written…“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

.

Yes, God has used this unfortunate situation, to manifest Himself as Saviour of the World!

“Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD”

Lamentations 3:40

.

And so, the answer to this question about why God allows evil, is a multi-faceted answer.

.

In other words, God allowed evil and suffering to reveal Himself as Judge and Saviour.

.

“I (Jesus) am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me”

John 14:6

.

www.lavistachurchofchrist.orgBut He also came to this Earth to show us how we must live. He is our divine “role-model”. He tells us…”Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matthew 16:24

.

Yes, Jesus came to be a living example of how we should live. And even though we are powerless to “walk, even as He walked”, He has revealed to us that only He can strengthen a man, woman, or child to walk in His ways…

“A new heart also will I give you,

and a new spirit will I put within you:

and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh,

and I will give you an heart of flesh.

And I will put my spirit within you,

and cause you to walk in My statutes,

and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them.”

Ezekiel 36:26, 27

.

Yes, here is revealed how we might walk in all His ways…by receiving His Holy Spirit into our heart and life!

.

Well, just one more passage will be given, to answer the question of just why does God allow evil and suffering.

.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vincent_van_Gogh_-_Old_Man_in_Sorrow_(On_the_Threshold_of_Eternity).jpg

“For the Lord will not cast off for ever:

But though He cause grief,

yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies.

For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth…

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.”

Lamentations 3:31-34, 41

.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vincent_van_Gogh_-_Weeping_Woman_(F1069).jpgHere is seen that God has allowed suffering as a means of turning mankind away from sin and sin’s unhappy results. God takes no pleasure in watching this world suffer. But if He took away all the unhappy results of sin, then we would never turn away from our sins, nor would we ever choose to follow Him

.

Well, there are many other passages which expand upon the reasons why God does what He does. And the “Noble Berean” would eagerly spend much time searching “the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11
