“The Bible’s Slavery Delusion”

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any twoedged sword…
…and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”
Hebrews 4:12

There is a particular debate on the Internet over the issue of whether or not the Bible condones slavery.
.
And both advocates, a pastor and an atheist, each came armed with Scripture to prove their own position.
.
Unfortunately, the Pastor seemed to be somewhat outmatched by the atheist.
.
Consequently, the Pastor could not sufficiently defend his beliefs, and instead, resorted to angry insults.
.
.
.
.
.
.
But what the atheist doesn’t understand, is that the Bible is a supernatural Book.
.
It is a “Two-edged Sword”.
.
It cuts to save, or it cuts to destroy.
.
In other words, the Bible is written as a sort of jigsaw puzzle: in tiny facets of truth.
.
And to truly understand the Bible, it must be put together, “line upon line, precept upon precept” to discover a balanced understanding about any particular truth. (Isaiah 28:10)
.
Oh yes, many people have attempted to prove various false doctrines by lifting certain passages out of the context of the entire Bible.
.
Perhaps the greatest false doctrine concocted by ignoring many scriptures is that heresy which grew out of the European Dark Ages, known as “Eternal Torment”.
.
And that atheist did the same thing concerning slavery…
.
…lifting certain passages out of context, which seem to support slavery, while ignoring others which absolutely condemn slavery!

Now, this devotional doesn’t have time to go into details of that debate, but simply to lay down a few highpoints.

“…my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath…”
James 1:19

Needless to say, no Christian, and certainly no pastor should be quick-tempered.
.
And if that pastor would more fully understand the spiritual nature of God’s Word, he could have successfully defended his position.
.

.
But what neither debater understood is the following passage…
“ …With the pure Thou (God) wilt shew Thyself pure;
and with the froward Thou (God) wilt shew Thyself froward.”
Psalm 18:25, 26
.
That atheist mistakenly sees the Bible’s God as a froward (unsavoury) Being.
.
And because he took passages out of context to bolster his argument, the Bible deceived him.

STRONG DELUSION IN SCRIPTURE

But listen to this next Scripture…
“…because they received not the love of the truth,
that they might be saved.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion,
that they should believe a lie…”
2nd Thessalonians 2:10, 11
.
God abhors slavery. After all, God’s hatred for slavery (and every other form of oppression) is one of the main themes of His Word.

“The LORD hath anointed me…to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound…”

But God often addressed spiritual bondage to sin and Satan, in earthly terms, as He likewise does with so many other Bible truths.

In other words, this entire unsaved world is under spiritual bondage to Satan, “the God of this world”! 2nd Corinthians 4:4
.
Listen to Jesus…Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” John 8:34

DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD
.
There are many other pitfalls in the Bible, which those who have not yet received gift of God’s Spirit, will stumble and fall into!
.
Listen to this next fearful passage…
...”For the Word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12, 13
.
So here is a very incredible passage which reveals the double-sided truth of the Bible!

Yes, the Bible reveals which spirit controls a person’s heart!
.
Those who are of an Antichrist spirit will, “stumble at the Word, being disobedient”. 1st Peter 2:8
.
But those who are spiritually-minded will delight to discover that, “the truth shall make you free”. John 8:32
.
