God’s Two-Edged Sword

“In that day, the LORD

.

with His sore and great and strong sword

.

shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent,

.

even leviathan that crooked serpent;

.

and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.”

Isaiah 27:1

.

So God has a sword!

.

This above verse from Isaiah makes that very clear!

.

And that sword is “sore and great and strong”! 

.

And with that “sore and great and strong sword”, God will punish that old serpent, the Devil! 

.

“And He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea!”

.

And so, let us briefly explore just what kind of sword that God has, and just how it will punish that old serpent and slay that ancient dragon.

THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

.

Listen…“And take the helmet of salvation, and THE SOWRD OF THE SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD” Ephesians 6:17  

.

Okay, so God’s sword is His Word! And it is His Word that will ultimately triumph over evil!

WORD OF GOD IS LIVING & POWERFUL!

.

But listen to this… “For the Word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” Hebrews 4:12, 13

.

Now it says here that God’s Word, is quick (living) and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword!

ALL SCRIPTURE IS LIVING & POWERFUL!

Now the question to be answered is this: “Are all of the books of both the Old and New Testaments living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword?” 

.

And the answer which comes back is, “Yes, all the books of the Bible are “living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword!”

.

So that means that Isaiah is, “living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword”! And that means that Nehemiah is also, “living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword!”

.

As a matter of fact, every single book of the Old Testament is, “living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword!”

DISCERNS THOUGHTS & INTENTS

.

And as this passage from Hebrews says, God’s Word pierces, “even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

.

Again, the question begs an answer, “Are Jeremiah and Ezekiel ‘piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart?'” 

.

And the answer comes echoing back, “Yes, of course! Jeremiah and Ezekiel are both ‘piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.'”

ALL 22 CHAPTERS OF REVELATION

.

Well then, is the entire book of Revelation “piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”? 

.

Yes, all 22 Chapters of Revelation are “piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

.

The reason for asking these repetitive questions is that there are many who try to diminish the Book of Revelation, at least the last 19 chapters, as not concerning the Church! And the same teachers attempt to diminish the power of much of the Old Testament as well, saying that it mainly concerns literal Israel, and not Christians.

PROPHECIES FOR ME TOO!

.

But the fact is, the entire book of Revelation, and each and every book of the Old Testament is “living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

.

And even if those books speak of “Israel”, or “Jerusalem”, or “Jews, or the “Twelve Tribes”, you can insert the word, “Christian”, or “The Church”, or “Us”, or even “Me” in their place! Yes, the whole Bible and all its prophecies also apply to “us”, and to “me”, in these New Testament times. That is because those Old Testament books are living books! Yes, they are “living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword!” And they are “a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart!”

DISCERNING SPIRITUAL, ALLEGORICAL THINGS!

.

Oh yes, many things must be spiritually discerned. Many of those Old Testament precepts and laws must be seen in a spiritual context. But they are as relevant as anything in the New Testament!

.

For instance, when the Book of Isaiah says, “For by fire and by His sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.” Isaiah 66:16, we must view this spiritually to mean that flames of fire symbolize God’s ministers (see Hebrews 1:7). And God’s sword symbolizes His Word, as has already been discussed.

.

So this verse actually says that “For by fire (God’s ministers) and by His sword (God’s Word) will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the [spiritually] slain of the LORD shall be many.”

.

So now we begin to discern the spiritual nature of this verse from Isaiah. And we now begin to see this verse from Isaiah 66, that it concerns God’s living and powerful Word and its ability to slay our old, selfish nature!

GOD’S SWORD CUTS TO SAVE, OR TO DESTROY!

.

And so, God’s two-edged sword cuts both ways! It either cuts to save, or it cuts to destroy! And every soul in the Church has been spiritually slain by that two-edged sword. Some to their utter damnation, and the rest slain to their Salvation!

.

And so, those of us who presume to teach what the Bible says, really need to tremble and quake, knowing the terror of the Lord! It is no light thing to be a teacher! And conversely, it is no light thing to be a student of Bible teachers!

.

.

WE MUST DEPART FROM INIQUITY!

.

And “Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2nd Timothy 2:19

.                                                                               

Yes, there are many of us who profess to be teachers, who take our office far too casually! And instead, each and every one of us should be crying out for God’s mercy because of our indolence and ignorance of God’s Word! May God have mercy on us teachers and also on we, the listeners, as well! God’s two-edged sword is razor sharp for a very good reason!

“O My people,

they which lead thee

cause thee to err,

and destroy the way of thy paths.”

Isaiah 3:12

This above passage, just like every Bible passage, is also, 

“living and powerful

and sharper than any two-edged sword!”

THE GLITTERING SWORD CONSTELLATION

.

.

“In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.” Isaiah 27:1

This constellation is made of most of the constellations in this website. The upper portion can be seen in the winter, while the lower blade is visible in the warmer months. (This constellation is actually in a semi-circle, as it appears in the night-sky. These pictures, however, show it as it would appear straightened out.)

THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

.

“And take the helmet of Salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God:” Ephesians 6:17

.

The Heavens Declare website is made of signs in the Sun, Moon, and Stars. But these signs point to the Bible, which is the greatest stronghold of truth, which we have in this world. But the point is, this giant sword which spans the heavens is engraved with the various constellations, much like the swords of this world which are often engraved with various writings and pictures.

.

But this Glittering Sword in the heavens represents God’s Word. And these constellations tell the story of the Gospel. (These constellations span both summer and winter sky, and this constellation in this picture to the right actually appears much more curved in the sky.)

.

“If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.” Deuteronomy 32:41
