And the Cities of the Nations Fell

“And the great city was divided into three parts,
and the cities of the nations fell:
and great Babylon came in remembrance before God,
to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath”
Revelation 16:19

Back in earlier decades, young school-age children spent their summer vacation picking crops.
.
Of course, nowadays, such “child-abuse” is not allowed, even though, these young kids learned some really valuable work skills! And those who have grown up in those past decades will testify, this nation was much stronger than today.

But those young children who grew up in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, witnessed a curious phenomenon in the many bean fields, which they harvested in the area of the nation.
.
You see, in the several months during bean-picking season, the same field needed to be re-picked at least three times.
.
But in the last picking of the season, it was evident that the quality of those beans diminished to the point that they were very large, but very empty and hollow! These inferior beans were referred to as “culls”!
.
Nevertheless, they had to be harvested. But how those inferior quality beans were used, was probably much different from the higher grades from the first pickings.

And as with everything in the world, one can make a spiritual analogy. The Bible declares…“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork.”

Yes, everything in the heavens, including earth, declares some aspect of the Gospel! From the tiniest atomic particle to the greatest galaxy and even far beyond, God has inscribed His glory, which of course, is His indescribable love and mercy, even for those who have rejected that love and mercy!

And this brings us to our signature Bible passage for today…
“And the great city was divided into three parts,
and the cities of the nations fell:
and great Babylon came in remembrance before God,
to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.”
Revelation 16:19

Yes, this above prophecy from The Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, foretells of the hour of history in which “the cities of the nations fell”. And in spite of the sad fact that most theologians and Bible instructors teach their largely unlearned church community that Revelation is for the future, and not for now, Revelation 16:19 prophesied of a time just prior to Judgment Day when the cities of the nations are in a fallen condition.

AMERICAN DEVOLUTION

And much like the last picking of green bean “culls”, our current-day societies have devolved! Just go on the Internet and watch videos of America during earlier generations and marvel how much neater and healthier the pedestrians often appeared!
.
Then watch a newly-made video of today’s city streets and see how greatly we have devolved in just a few decades! (Watch American streets in the 1940’s) (Now watch Heartbreaking Life on the streets of America)
.
And then just listen to the social/political commentators complain of how devolved/deteriorated our public education system has become. Many young people are barely able to answer even the most basic questions about the world around them, and practically nothing concerning history, and even less about American history!

And crime is now running rampant in big cities, along with drugs, gambling, sexual perversions, theft, violence, etc…. And the governors and mayors of many cities seem incapable of, or unwilling to solve these problems, while even some are applauding the downfall and destruction of their cities! And the voters keep voting them back into power because these corrupt politicians promise to give “free stuff” in exchange for their votes.

Truly, the Book of Revelation has accurately foretold of the downfall of “the cities of the nations…”!

“And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit”

Perhaps there are websites which further detail the various ways in which the cities of the nations are fallen, and continue their downward slide.
.
And don’t be surprised if this declension continues, since sin is a bottomless pit!
.
That is, there is no limit to the depths and bounds which sinners can devolve into!

SATAN, THAT SIDEWINDING SERPENT!

Now, we must not forget that Satan is likened to a serpent in both Genesis, Revelation, etc…! And as we all know, snakes do not travel in a straight path. They wind back-and-forth.

And so, if ever this world (his antichrist-world-system), seems to change course for a time, let’s not be deceived into thinking…“Look how things are getting so much better!” That’s just how that sidewinding “serpent-of-old” moves!

Yes, it’s tragically sad to see the cities of the nations falling into such decadence!
.
But if there is any Good News, it is that today is still the day of Salvation!
.
And even though the probability is slim that there will ever be a genuine repentance by the general populace, God is willing to save any man, woman, or child willing to renounce this fallen and hopeless world, and begin the upward heavenward sojourn out of this “City of Destruction” antichrist world-system, ruled over the “the god of this world”, Lucifer, now called Satan, and The Devil. (See 2nd Corinthians 4:4 & Revelation 20:2)

“Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.” Isaiah 24:23

When God created the Moon and the stars, He ordained them to “rule the night” (Gen. 1:16). The Moon, especially when it is full, can light your pathway through the night, as it reflects the light of the Sun.
.
So too, the Christian is to be a light to the world: to this sin-darkened world. But as the Moon must reflect the light of the Sun, in order to be a light to the world, so also must the Christian reflect the light of Jesus, to be a spiritual light to this planet in rebellion. Listen…

“Ye are the light of the world…Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
.
However, during an eclipse, the Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, preventing that sunlight from shining on the Moon’s face. This is an incredible object-lesson about when the child of God allows the world to come between him and his Lord. Like the eclipse, that person no longer reflects the light of Jesus, because his or her love of this dark world of sin has eclipsed the light from the “Sun of Righteousness” (see Malachi 4:2).
