Cease Ye From Man!

Part 10:
“Avoiding David’s Sin!”

because your adversary the devil,
as a roaring lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour”
1st Peter 5:8

The true, historical account of King David is a bittersweet story, because of David’s great sin of adultery, followed by the murder of her husband.
.
Oh yes, there were many wonderful events and victories in David’s life, of whom the Lord has said, “I have found…a man after Mine own heart, which shall fulfill all My will.” Acts 13:22.
.
Nevertheless, God allowed this great tragedy to occur in David’s life, and placed a dark stain on his story, which overshadowed all the good that David accomplished.

And one reason for allowing such a horrible fall from grace, is to use this regretful chapter in David’s life to stand as a strong warning for God’s people in these last days!

DAVID WAS ‘TAKING IT EASY’ IN THE TIME OF WAR!
.
You see, David was loitering back in Jerusalem, “at the time when kings go forth to battle” 2nd Samuel 11:1.
.
In other words, David was goofing off, in the day of battle! He took off his armor, and laid it aside!
.
Yes, King David should have been vigilantly doing battle against his enemies, but instead was idly tarrying behind.
.
And because of this, his neglect of engaging in battle, he became unwatchful, thus falling into mischief with Bathsheba.

CHOSEN TO BE A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD!
.
Now God has chosen His Elect to be a royal priesthood.
.
This means that Christians are not only a priesthood, but also kings!
.
And so, God has given His people a great commission and a great responsibility! And as kings, Christians must beware not to fall into some mischief like David did.
.
And as we all know, there are many different pitfalls which Satan can and will lay across our pathway in hopes of tripping us up, as he did to David.
.

HOW CAN I AVOID DAVID’S SIN?
.
Now this little series of devotionals is titled, “Cease Ye From Man” Isaiah 2:22. But 
it is subtitled, “Avoiding David’s Sin!”
.
So the question each of us must ask ourselves is, “Just how can I avoid falling into a similar sin as David?”
.

“BE SOBER, BE VIGILANT!”
.
Listen to Peter’s warning…“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” 1st Peter 5:8
.
So Peter counsels us to, “be sober, be vigilant”. And let’s face it, in this high-tech era, the temptations and pitfalls have been greatly multiplied!

DON’T RUSH IN WHERE ANGEL’S FEAR TO TREAD!
.
And so, this day’s devotional becomes a warning against unnecessarily placing ourselves in harm’s way, via the television, Internet, sensual radio music, magazines, etc…
.
No, David didn’t have these high-tech devices.
.
And yet, in essence, he was visually scanning the rooftops, and no doubt went to his favorite site…Bathsheba’s rooftop!
.
.

.
PORNOGRAPHY IN OLDEN TIMES!
.
Now obviously, Bathsheba was making herself a temptress by exposing herself on that rooftop that day.
.
And so, she had, in a very real sense, become a publisher of pornography, as she publicly exposed her nakedness to those around her. And obviously, she knew very well where David lived!
.
And David, instead of fighting the Christian battle over evil, was placing himself in this very vulnerable circumstance.

AN INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT
.
But in this sensually charged society, in which women often and unashamedly wear skin-tight and/or skimpy clothing in public, it almost seems impossible to not lust.
.
And then, when half-naked women pop up on the Internet, or in some television advertisement, the airways greatly become a sexually-charged atmosphere.
.

THE WORKPLACE A POTENTIAL HOTBED OF ADULTERY
.
But if all this were not enough, Satan has redesigned the workplace to be a pool of both married and unmarried men and women constantly rubbing elbows throughout the workday!
.
Or innocently walking through a mall can become a real stumbling-block for men!
.
Of course, these things are no accident, nor are they a coincidence! No, the “Prince of the Power of the Air: that spirit which now works in the children of disobedience”, has been working around the clock to create this extremely volatile, sexually-charged situation throughout the industrial nations! (see Ephesians 2:2)
.
And the current-day “50% divorce-rate” is a testament to what a sad idea it can be for married young women to be in the workplace, working with other men four or five days a week. And needless to say, the destruction of the family has been a great contributing factor to the decline and fall of this society!

HIDE THYSELF, O CHRISTIAN!
.
This is one reason why the Lord counsels us in these last days…
“Come, My people, enter thou into thy chambers,
and shut thy doors about thee:
hide thyself as it were for a little moment,
until the indignation be overpast.
For, behold, the LORD cometh out of His place
to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity:
the earth also shall disclose her blood,
and shall no more cover her slain.”
Isaiah 26:20, 21
.
Yes, God’s people are being counseled to hide ourselves from the approaching storm.
.
And obviously, the Lord is going to punish the earth’s inhabitants for our promiscuity and our shameful indiscretions!
.

“PLUCK IT OUT…CUT IT OFF!”

And so, one great remedy to this sad situation would obviously be to remove ourselves from every unnecessary exposure to public indecency.

And the very first place to begin is by eliminating television, movies, sensual-music, and any dangerous places on the Internet.
.
Listen to Jesus’ warning…
“And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee:
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish,
and not that thy whole body should be cast into Hell.”

Now one thing that is noticeable and makes this constellation even more dramatic, is the fact that the Milky Way runs right through it.

And the question that must be asked is, “What biblical implications does this constellation/Milky Way connection have?”

Well, very simply put, if stars represent Believers, then this rider works in the world through His True-Worshippers, to a great extent.

WHY IS THIS CONSTELLATION SO INCOMPLETE IN APPEARANCE

So why is this constellation merely an outline?
.
Well it does show his back, rear end and leg…and arm. But unlike, say, Orion, this constellation is very vague, even mysterious in appearance. Almost vacant in appearance. Yes this horseman represents Christ. But even more than this, it represents the Holy Spirit of Christ.
.
And as we all know, the Holy Spirit is very, very, un-intrusive, almost impossible to detect His presence.
