Today’s Devotional – NOVEMBER 23

.

The Two Spirits In The World

.

“And every spirit that confesses not

that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:

and this is that [spirit] of antichrist…

They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world,

and the world heareth them.

Hereby know we the spirit of truth,

and the spirit of error.”

1st John 4:3, 5, 6

.

This above passage speaks of two spirits in the world: the “Spirit of truth”, and the “spirit of error”.

.

**And the “spirit of error” is also referred to, here above in verse 3, as the spirit of antichrist.**

.

From this 1st John 4:3, 5, 6, we learn that the “spirit of error” is merely the spirit which pervades all those living in this world, who are not of the “Spirit of truth”?

SPIRIT OF TRUTH IS HOLY SPIRIT

.

Now, this same passage also speaks of the “Spirit of truth”.

Just who is that referring to?

**Well, Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the “Spirit of Truth” several times in John’s Gospel.**

.

Listen… “And I will pray the Father,

and He shall give you another Comforter,

that He may abide with you for ever;

Even the Spirit of truth…”

John 14:16, 17 (Condensed)

.

**According to his writings, there are two spirits pervading the inhabitants of the world: the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error: the Holy Spirit and the Antichrist spirit.**

WORLD INDWELT BY SPIRIT OF ERROR

Okay, so you, no doubt, already knew that, didn’t you? You knew that the world cannot receive the Holy Spirit.

.

**But did you know the other part of this truth? Did you know that the spirit of antichrist indwells the peoples of the world?**

“PRINCE of the POWER of the AIR”

.

And for further confirmation of this startling truth, just listen to Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians…

“ Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,

according to the prince of the power of the air,

***the spirit* that *now works in the children of disobedience:”***

Ephesians 2:1, 2.

.

So then, this passage also confirms that this “prince of the power of the air” is akin to the “course of this world”.

In other words, this is saying that this world is in harmony with Satan.

**And he is that spirit which “now” works in the people of this world.**

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man…

Then…saith, I will return…

and…findeth it empty…

Then…taketh…seven other spirits…

and they enter in…

and the last state of that man is worse…

Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”

Matthew 12:43-45 (condensed for brevity…click here for full passage)

In this above passage, Jesus was speaking to the proud Pharisees, revealing to them that a man’s heart must be filled, either by the Holy Spirit, or by an unclean, devilish spirit.

.

In the above account, is revealed how a person with an unclean spirit can be transformed into a counterfeit religious person (symbolized by the 7 more wicked spirits).

BOTTOM LINE: NO FENCE-SITTERS!

.

**So, either a person is filled with the spirit of Satan, the antichrist spirit, or he (or she) is filled with the Spirit of truth, the Holy Spirit.**

And there’s no third alternative!

.

As Jesus Himself stated…

“He that is not with Me is against Me;

and he that gathers not with Me scatters abroad.”

Matthew 12:30.

.

So, there’s no fence-sitters in this world: you are either in God’s camp, or you are in the Devil’s camp, one or the other.

You just can’t be like this little bird in the above drawing, sitting on the fence!

The Devil owns the fence!

.

STAYING IN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH

.

So, the big question is, “How do I stay with the ‘Spirit of Truth’?”.

Perhaps one of the most comprehensive passages is found in the Letter of James…

.

Listen… “Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.

Cleanse your hands, ye sinners;

and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep:

let your laughter be turned to mourning,

and your joy to heaviness.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord,

and He shall lift you up.”

James 4:8-10.

.

For those who still have sin in our lives, there should be the posture of humility and repentance.

.

And this above passage is the key to success for every seeker of mercy and truth!
