Daily Devotional, Year 1 – September 29th
.
King Hezekiah was told by the Lord, “Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.” Isaiah 38:1.
.
Upon hearing this, he wept before the Lord.
.
And God said back to Hezekiah, “I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.” Isaiah 38:5
.
And so, Hezekiah lived another 15 years.
.
However, after King Hezekiah proudly and presumptuously showed his treasures to the Babylonians, God angrily informed this disobedient king…
“Behold, the days come,
that all that is in thine house…
shall be carried to Babylon:
nothing shall be left…
thy sons shall they take away…”
Isaiah 39:6, 7 (Condensed)
.
But Hezekiah, upon hearing this tragic judgment, added further to his sin, by selfishly saying…
…”Good is the word of the LORD…
For there shall be peace and truth in my days.”
Isaiah 39:8 (Condensed)
.
Hezekiah was merely concerned, mostly with himself.
.
He wasn’t so concerned with his children, grandchildren, nor with his kingdom after him!
.
In other words, King Hezekiah was saying “I got mine! Who cares about anyone else?!”
.
Now just what does this Old Testament account have to do with today’s world, or even with today’s church-world?
.
“I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
Jeremiah 17:10
