Eternal Torment?

Part 27:

“What & Where is Tartaroo?”

“For if God spared not the angels that sinned,

but cast them down to Hell (Greek = “Tartaroo”),

and delivered them into chains of darkness,

to be reserved unto judgment…”

2nd Peter 2:4

So, does Hell have different compartments?

.

Does Hell have a basement, and a 1st floor?

.

Well, in a sense, Hell does have two compartments!

.

Let’s take a few moments to explore exactly what is the true nature of Hell.

.

“HELL”: A CATCH-ALL NAME

.

One big problem is that translators gave the catch-all name, “Hell”, instead of using each of the Greek or Hebrew name, “Hades”, “Gehenna”, “Tartaroo”, and “Sheol”. 

.

Yes, for centuries the Church was indoctrinated into the idea of all Christ-rejectors will spend an eternity in some netherworld chamber of horrors…

.

…and therefore, was given the catch-all name, “Hell”…

.

…and Bible translators just assumed this heretical teaching must be true.

JONAH A PICTURE OF AFFLICTIONS OF GOD’S PEOPLE

In yesterday’s devotional (click here to read), it was shown that Jonah’s stay in the whale’s belly was a spiritual picture of the place of Hell…

.

…in which many Believers are afflicted by God, for their eventual purification.

.

Listen to Jonah’s prayer, describing his affliction…

…”And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD,

and HE heard me;

out of the belly of Hell cried I,

and THOU heard my voice.” Jonah 2:2.

.

Here, Jonah calls this fish belly, “Hell”.

BUT WHY CALL IT HELL?

.

Well, the Old Testament does proclaim that there is a Hell.

.

But actually, the Hebrew word for Hell is “Sheol”, which literally means, “the grave”.

.

And so, yes, the Bible speaks of Hell as the grave.

ANGELS CAST DOWN TO HELL…ON EARTH!

.

But the Bible also speaks of Hell as a place of spiritual darkness.

.

Listen…“For if God spared not the angels that sinned, 

but cast them down to Hell (Greek = “Tartaroo”), 

and delivered them into chains of darkness, 

to be reserved unto judgment…” 

2nd Peter 2:4

.

But wait a minute! Wasn’t Satan and his angels cast down to this earth?

.

Yes, they were cast down to the earth!

“CAST OUT INTO THE EARTH”

.

Listen again to the fate of the fallen angels…

“And…that old serpent,

called the Devil, and Satan… 

he was cast out into the earth,

and his angels were cast out with him.”

Revelation 12:9 (Condensed)

.

So yes, Satan and his fellow evil angels were indeed cast down to this earth, into “chains of darkness”, as 2nd Peter 2:4 tells us!

.

This also is what Hell (Tartaroo) is: chains of spiritual darkness.

.

Oh yes, Hell is also the grave.

HELL ON EARTH

.

Well, listen to this next, very revealing verse from Proverbs…

…”The way of life is above to the wise,

that he may depart from Hell beneath.”

Proverbs 15:24

.

So here is another very interesting verse regarding Hell. 

.

WHAT DID HENRY SAY?

.

Matthew Henry, when commenting on this particular verse (“The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from Hell beneath.” Proverbs 15:24), made this following revealing statement…

.

“A good man sets his affections on things above,

and deals in those things.

His conversation (lifestyle) is in Heaven;

his way leads directly thither; ‘

there his treasure is, above,

out of the reach of enemies,

above the changes of this lower world.”

.

So, from this comment, it can be concluded that Henry likewise saw that this proverb was speaking of this “lower world” as the “Hell below”…

.

…this hellish world of sin and woe, from which a Christian pilgrim must depart from. This fallen world of spiritual darkness.

.

OUTER DARKNESS

.

With these things in mind, let’s look at this warning put forth by Jesus…

…”But the children of the kingdom

shall be cast out into outer darkness:

there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Matthew 8:12

.

Most Christians look at this above verse and assume that it’s speaking of eternal torment.

.

But it cannot be, since a soul does not have any teeth to gnash on!

.

And so, it must be speaking of the outer darkness which this lost world experiences on a daily basis.

.

In other words, this is speaking of when a Christian backslides into the spiritual darkness of this lost world.

.

And God indeed casts them back into this unbelieving world of outer darkness, as a severe chastisement upon His professed people.

.

THRUST OUT OF KINGDOM OF GOD

.

But what about this next verse?

Listen… “There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth,

when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob,

and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God,

and you yourselves thrust out.”

Luke 13:28

.

Now this above verse has to be speaking of Eternal Torment, doesn’t it? Or does it not?

.

Do you see a man with a very long pointed nose?

Do you see an angry look? His right eyebrow is raised as if he is judging.

.

This second face in the Moon appears to be that of a combination of a man as well as a fox.

.

Or maybe a wolf. Doesn’t he have a long narrow nose like a wolf or fox? Maybe even a dog.

.

Nevertheless, the expression on his face, as he appears to look down upon the Earth, is that of scorn.

.

Unlike the first Moon-man’s sad shock and awe; this ‘man/fox/wolf/dog’ appears to be that of anger and scorn.

.

As if he is disgusted at the sinful planet below.

.

He is very moral, you see!
