CITY OF CONFUSION
.
Babylon was given its name during the building of that infamous Tower of Babylon, because God confused their speech…
.
Listen… “Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.” Genesis 11:9

“COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE!”
.
And so, the name, Babylon, actually means, “City of Confusion”.
.
But God is now commanding His people to, “Come out of her, My people!”
.
But how could God be calling His people out of a city which was destroyed long ago?
.
Well, obviously, there must be a Babylon which exists in these last days. And God is commanding us to come out of that Babylon!

BABYLON, THE WORLD!
.
Yes, this world (including the worldly-minded churches) is the modern-day Babylon!
.

So, let’s just explore these things to find out how we might escape from our own present-day Babylonian captivity…

“PURIFY YOUR HEARTS YE DOUBLE-MINDED!”
James 4:8

Have you ever heard the expression, “Before you can take a man out of the slums, you must first take the slums out of the man”?
.
There have been various attempts, over the years, to help the poor, by constructing “project housing”, in which these poor were moved out of the slums, and into nice new accommodations!
.
But to the dismay of the government, it was not long until those project housings began to resemble the very slums which those people were originally taken away from!
.

“PURGE OUT…THE OLD LEAVEN”
.
So what went wrong?
.
The problem was, that even though they successfully removed those people out of the slums, yet they failed to remove the slums out of those people’s hearts!
.
Listen to Paul’s exhortation…“Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump,” 1st Corinthians 5:6, 7
.
This above verse reveals the concept that the heart can be infected by worldly ideas, which must be purged out.

“SEARCH ME O GOD, AND KNOW MY HEART”
Psalm 139:23
.
Now there have been many who have left the fallen churches, but also there are many others who have yet to vacate them, that they may take their stand with God’s faithful Remnant.
.
But it should not be assumed that merely leaving the apostate churches will accomplish all that God desires from His people.
.

BABYLON, A HEART CONDITION!
.
You see, living in Babylon is as much a condition of the heart as it is one’s physical location!
.
Even more so!
.
In other words, Babylon must also be removed from the heart and mind, for one to truly come out of her!
.
.

.
GAMBLING
.
For example, God has not explicitly condemned gambling. And yet, the Bible lays down basic principles, which when followed, will result in the Christian shunning that vice…
.
Listen…“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” Proverbs 13:11
.
And those who are indwelt by God’s Spirit will embrace all such similar principles as this above verse, and as a result want nothing to do with anything that resembles gambling.

Yes, God doesn’t always spell out exactly every activity that He hates.
.
But the Bible lays out various principles which should guide every truth-seeking member of God’s house.
.

THE MUSIC OF HEAVEN, OR EARTH?
.
For another example, take the music culture we now live in. There is a wide variety of musical styles in which a person might choose from, to listen to.
.
And the Bible does not come right out and explicitly condemn one type, and approve of another.
.
But rather, the Bible, instead, lays down various principles which should become our guide in choosing which kind of music we should listen to…
.
For instance, listen to this eternal principle…“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8
.
This above verse reveals the timelessness of Heaven’s ways. Yes, Heaven is not a place of trendiness, fashion, and whimsical change. And this principle is seen in many old hymns. Take for instance, the songs, “A Mighty Fortress”, or “Amazing Grace”, which are as beautiful and relevant as the day they were penned!

“PURE, PEACEABLE, GENTLE”
.
Here’s another revealing passage…“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle…” James 3:17
.
This above verse reveals that purity, peace, and gentleness are among the primary qualities of Heaven.

“EARTHY, SENSUAL, DEVILISH”
.
This next verse reveals what Heaven hates…“This wisdom descendeth not from 
above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.” James 3:15
.
Here above is revealed that sensuality and earthiness is devilish.
.
And so, by shunning sensuality and earthiness, and instead, embracing timelessness, purity, gentleness, and peacefulness, etc., the Christian can more readily discern what kind of music that Heaven loves.

THE INDWELLING HOLY SPIRIT
.
And let’s face it! When a Believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, there will be the same holy desires within that Christian!
.
And so, as a result, Christians who are truly indwelt by God’s Holy Spirit, will naturally shun the trendy, fickle and earthy ways of this world, and instead gravitate toward the timeless, pure, holy, and loving ways of Heaven.

“I AM THE WAY”
John 14:6
.
Well, these are just a few examples of how the Believer is to come out of Babylon in his or her heart and mind.
.
And more than this, we have an even further safe-guard, which guides and protects us from the Devil’s deceptions: Jesus Christ.
.
He is, “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
.
And so, He is to be our heavenly role-model, in all matters of the heart!
