“The Divided States of America & My Divided Heart?”

A NEW NATION WAS FORMED
.
Those who long ago sailed to this fledging nation, exhausted from the centuries of religious/civil tyranny in Europe, began what they thought was to be a Christian nation!
.
Yes, America was the beginning of a great experiment in freedom of political/religious speech as well as liberty of conscience!
.
And God mercifully gave this nation an incredible constitution: a wonderful gift given by the Almighty, because of the cruel tyranny He allowed by the harsh hand of Satan, throughout the various European nations during the centuries of The Dark Ages.
.
And the forefathers of this new nation eventually named it, “The United States of America”.
.

But tragically and very sadly, what began as The UNITED States of America, has finally now become The DIVIDED States of America! And the result is a nation in decline, with an increasing animus, even abject hatred between the two political/social factions!
.
And while this divided nation has become absorbed and obsessed with infighting amongst its leaders, Satan has been stealthfully causing empires to grow stronger, richer, and increasingly dangerous, as they “lick their chops” at the prospects of soon walking in and taking control of this decadent and distracted society.
.
Yes, as Jesus warned, “And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.” Mark 3:24

MY DIVIDED HEART
.
But if a Believer in Christ would just behold how this society is so consumed with fighting about their bitter differences, which allows their enemies to grow stronger and more deadly, there could be seen an astonishing analogy concerning how Satan is doing the exact same thing with the Church, but also with the individual Christian!
.
In other words, God’s people, just like our society, are also divided! Yes, Satan has caused the Church to become divided between our love for Heaven, but also our love for this present selfish world!
.

Yes, just like a deeply divided nation whose infighting has allowed its enemies to grow strong and formidable, so too, both the world-loving Church as well as we individual Christians have unwittingly and unknowingly allowed the Enemy of Souls to walk right in and take over!

MANY DISTRACTIONS

In this cornucopian super-society, there is no shortage of enticements, cares, and ambitious pursuits to absorb one’s thoughts and energies!

Yes, there are many intriguing and exciting places to go, mountains to conquer, races to run, and people to meet.
.
Like never before in history, there are now seemingly endless choices about how a person can live.
.
You might say that “the god of this world” has created a veritable, “theme-park world”! (2nd Corinthians 4:4)
.

.
AS THE WORLD OF POLITICS TURNS
.
A relatively new distracting indulgence has arisen in these last days, which especially attracts and intrigues and ensnares many churchgoers, even genuine Believers: the daily soap-opera of politics!
.
Yes, “the god of this world” has ratcheted up the ongoing battle between the two major political factions, in which one can simply turn on the radio/TV/Internet, and watch this intense daily drama, complete with “good guys” and “villains”.
.
And even one talk-radio personality made the clever observation, “The greatest show on earth is two scorpions in a brandy glass!”
.
And isn’t it true, that politics has become just that!
.
And why should we wonder that the game of chess, a game of political strategy, is so captivating?
.
It’s just that! Two scorpions in a brandy glass!

Listen to Paul’s advice to Timothy…“No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” 2nd Timothy 2:4

Yes, the political/social issues we see being fought over each day, seem to be very important and relevant for today’s world. But too many of us Christians have been captivated by modern media’s voyeuristic capabilities, enabling us to gaze upon all these important issues being fought over by national and world leaders each day, even ALL DAY!
.
Why, it’s even more captivating than sports, since the consequences of today’s political/social issues are very real and critically, even existentially important!
.

.
.
“And take heed to yourselves, lest…that day come upon you unawares.” Luke 21:34
.
But just like this currently divided nation, we too are diverted from the one truly existential issue: to do daily battle against unseen forces which are trying to steal and destroy the souls of all those around us, be it family, friends, brethren, and humanity!
.
Yes, here is the one and only true issue which should have our undivided attention…
.
Listen to this very timely warning…“And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.” Luke 21:34
.
It seems that God has written this above warning especially for such a time as this!
.
Yes, like never before, Satan is working 24/7/365 to entrap unwary Christians into pleasures and pursuits which divert us from our true commission: to continue up the pathway which leads us away from this doomed, “City of Destruction”, as we journey onward and upward toward the everlasting “Celestial City of God!”
.
And let us plead with God to keep our eyes focused on the heavenly prize which awaits all those who overcome this selfish antichrist world!
