“Is Sodomy The Greatest Sin?”

Is sodomy the greatest sin?
.
Well, from reading this following verse by Peter, one might get that very idea…“And (God) turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;” 2nd Peter 2:6
.
Here is revealed that Sodom was used by God as an example of the destruction of those who should live ungodly.

“SODOM…SET FORTH FOR AN EXAMPLE…OF ETERNAL FIRE”
.
And what about this next verse…“Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” Jude 1:7
.
This above verse is even more explicit than the previous verse from 2nd Peter 2:6, in condemning the very sin of, “fornication and going after strange flesh.” Jude 1:7

“RECEIVING…THAT RECOMPENCE OF THEIR ERROR WHICH WAS MEET (APPROPRIATE)”

So again, is the act of “men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet” the greatest of all sins? (see Romans 1:27)
.
Certainly, by the three verses just mentioned, one could build a case for that idea. And considering how God “rained fire and brimstone down from Heaven and destroyed them all” in Sodom, one might justifiably get extremely nervous about participating in that sin, or even some similar sin, such as bestiality, fornication, or adultery!

“MORE TOLERABLE FOR SODOM…IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT”
.
But before we close our Bibles and say, “Amen and amen”, we need to take a moment to further examine what Scripture says considering the magnitude of various sins.
.
Listen to this…“And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.” Matthew 10:14, 15
.
Oh, so here we have a greater sin than that which Sodom partook of! Rejecting the Word of God! After all, Jesus was speaking to His disciples when He made this above statement!
.
And let’s face it! There are many in today’s Christianity who profess to love God, and yet reject God’s infallible Word, at least in part.

“THEY…WALK IN LIES…THEY ARE…UNTO ME (GOD) AS SODOM”
Jeremiah 23:14
.
Oh no, the vast majority of the church-going throngs profess to love such verses as…“Love thy 
neighbor”, or, “Feed the poor”. (See Matthew 19:19, etc., and 1st Corinthians 13:3)
.
But listen to the Lord…“I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom,” Jeremiah 23:14
.
Here is revealed that God’s beloved city was the habitation of false prophets who, “walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom,” Jeremiah 23:14

“O MY PEOPLE! IT IS THEY WHICH LEAD THEE THAT CAUSE THEE TO ERR AND DESTROY THE WAY OF THY PATHS!”

Here is the true Sodom! It is those in God’s house who teach the people to engage in any sin: these are the true “men of Sodom”!

And let’s face it! There are many false teachers in today’s Christendom who are leading the Christian community down, down, down into utter apostasy and ruin, even as Paul foretold in 2nd Timothy 4:3…“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”

“THE CHURCH WILL BECOME…IRRELEVANT WHEN IT QUOTES LETTERS FROM 2,000 YEARS AGO”
(A statement by a false teacher in today’s apostate church-world)
.
For instance, one self-appointed spokesman for the Church made the following statement to a very well-known secular talk show host…“The Church will become even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago (the Bible) as their best defense, when you have in front of you flesh and blood people (he was speaking concerning people desiring a same-gender relationship)”.
.
Now in this above statement, this so-called “Bible authority” revealed his covert disdain for God’s infallible Word, in attempt to promote same-gender marriage. Thus, he and those who agree with him are dedicated to bringing the Church down into even further apostasy and ruination as it embraces the sins of Sodom for the sake of popularity with society!

“(THE) UNLEARNED AND UNSTABLE WRESTLE, AS THEY DO ALSO THE OTHER SCRIPTURES, UNTO THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION”
2nd Peter 3:16

These men are masters at twisting Scripture until it comes out saying what they want it to say, thus 
showing their utter contempt for God’s infallible Word.
.
And capitalizing on the prevailing ignorance of Scripture in today’s church-world, these false shepherds are leading the churches down into “destruction and perdition!” 1st Timothy 6:9
.
But we have the divine Role-Model for all correct behavior in our Lord Jesus…“I am the way, and the truth and the life.” John 14:6
.
Yes, here is the divine safe-guard to what is and what is not true godly behavior. And those who would pervert the true Gospel in any way must stand before God and receive “that recompense of their error which was meet (deserved).” Romans 1:27

LEADING THE CHURCH INTO SIN IS A GREAT CRIME AGAINST HEAVEN!
.
And so, the answer to today’s question, “Is sodomy the greatest sin?”, is “absolutely not!”
.
But apostate Bible teachers who promote and encourage the Church to embrace false doctrines and world-loving behavior of any type are definitely guilty of committing a very great and heinous crime against Heaven!

Well, the Good News is this: it is still the day of Salvation! And all those who have been led astray by these false shepherds who manipulate Scripture to promote some sin, can still cry out for deliverance from these errors.

And instead, by the grace of God, they will, “walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1
.
Yes, they will begin to walk after the Ways of the Spirit, instead of walking according to the flesh.
.
And we have this wonderful promise…“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life…” Revelation 3:5
