“Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades,

or loose the bands of Orion?

Now in yesterday’s devotional (click here to read), the focus was on Ellen White’s comments regarding Orion (which constellation God mentions several times in Scripture).

.

And she wrote the following statement…“Dark, heavy clouds came up and clashed against each other. The atmosphere parted and rolled back; then we could look up through the open space in Orion, whence came the voice of God. The Holy City will come down through that open space.” {From the Ellen White book, “Early Writings”}

.

Now this statement seems to be not only very cryptic, but very puzzling as well! After all, where in the Bible does it ever say that God’s voice came through that constellation? And where does it ever prophesy that “The Holy City will come down through that open space”?

THE HORSE NEBULA?

.

Well, many Adventists believe that the great “Horse Nebula” of Orion is that “open space”. And they may well be correct.

.

But there is another aspect to Orion which makes true biblical sense concerning her Orion statement.

THE NARROW WAY & BROAD WAY

.

Well, if the Reader will study the Signs Of Heaven Article, “Orion the Reaper”, it can be seen that the two brightest stars in Orion’s sickle represent “The Narrow Way”, as spoken of in Matthew 7:13, 14… “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

.

Here is a very renowned Bible passage which has, no doubt, sparked many discussions and debates through the centuries concerning this concept of a narrow way and a broad way.

THE TWO WAYS DEPICTED IN THE NIGHT SKY

.

Yes, both the “Narrow Way” and “The Broad Way” are represented in the Heavens.

.

And while the two brightest stars in Orion’s sickle represent the Narrow Way, the two brightest stars of the Revelation 12 Dragon’s wave of water coming out of his mouth represent the Broad Way that leads to destruction.

.

And as this star-chart shows, the Narrow Way stars are much closer together than the Broad Way stars.

A SPIRITUAL MEANING?

.

And so, it makes perfect sense that these Narrow Way stars could very well be what Ellen White was speaking of as “The open space in Orion”. After all, isn’t the “Narrow Way” actually referring to the spiritual doorway that we must enter into to receive our Salvation?

.

And so, Ellen White may indeed have been referring to this spiritual concept depicted in the heavens. In other words, Ellen White was quite possibly speaking of a spiritual concept and not a literal one.

THE NARROW WAY IS THE ONE TRUE PATH TO SALVATION

.

Well, those who feel strongly that the great Horse Nebula was what Mrs. White was referring to, may be partly right. But this Orion the Reaper Constellation may actually be what her comment was referring to.

.

**Nevertheless, the Reader is encouraged to make sure that he or she has truly entered into the true “Narrow Way” (Christ) in their own life. For He is the only true Doorway to Salvation!**

The Strait Gate is the Narrow Way and the broad way is the Wide Gate

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

THE NARROW WAY: THE PILGRIM’S PATHWAY

.

That world-shaking allegory, Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, picked up the theme of the Narrow Gate. The hero of the story was Christian, a man who was warned to flee from the City of Destruction (the world), and to embark on a journey to the Heavenly City. And along the way, Christian encountered many adventures and dangers. This first of its kind allegorical book absolutely rocked the western world, and became perhaps the first million seller book (along with the Bible).

.

But God has also given this same Narrow Way parable in the night heavens! Incredible? Yes, incredible…and amazing too! And though these two stars can hardly be considered a constellation, but when sitting next to the two stars which comprise the Broad Gate, well, it makes a powerful statement, for the people of God.

So please come along on this journey and find out just why this pathway graces the night heavens, and perhaps you might find yourself embarking on your own pilgrimage up that very same Narrow pathway.

LOCATION

This most amazing phenomenon is seen throughout the winter. Although it can be observed most of the winter, it is seen best when it is the western part of the sky, at winter’s end (The end of winter being the final scene of this heavenly Gospel story). Orion , the Dragon, and the Glorious White Horse are beginning to descend into the western horizon (sketch to right is Winter Constellations descending into western horizon. This can actually be seen as early as December, in the pre-dawn hours).

.

And at this point it is apparent that the Fleeing Woman of Revelation 12 Constellation is veering toward the two bright stars, known as Castor and Pollux (sketch below). But the Wide Gate Stars are composed of the two brightest stars of the Auriga Constellation, known as the star, Capella, and the star, Menkalinan. The two stars, Castor and Pollux, make up the concept of the Orion’s Narrow Gate Stars.

.

This can even be observed into June in the western sky (for a short time just after dark). While a dark night is best for seeing the Woman Constellation, the 4 stars which comprise the Narrow Gate/Wide Gate Stars can be seen even under mediocre conditions. It begins with the Fleeing Woman of Revelation 12 Constellation (AKA Ursa Major) going towards these two doors.

The sketch to left shows, the two doors are each composed of two bright stars. The two bright stars that comprise the Narrow Gate are the two brightest stars of the Orion the Reaper’s sickle. The two stars that comprise the ‘Wide Gate’ Stars are the two brightest stars of the wave of water that comes out of the Dragon Constellation’s mouth (for explanation of “Wave of Water”, just click here). The stars that make up the ‘Narrow Gate’ are about half the width of the Wide Gate (see sketch to right).

As the opening verse says, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

So what are these two gates all about? And how can I choose the right door? Well, just read this article and these questions and more will be answered.
