Part 44:
“God’s Law & The United States”

“Come unto Me,
all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me;
for I am meek and lowly in heart:
and ye shall find rest unto your souls”

So, in this little series, the subject of those noble Bereans has been introduced. And today, it is still worthy of a little more exploration into another area of concern.
.
Let’s review the key Bible passage… “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming there, went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:10, 11

AN OPEN-MINDED SPIRIT IN BEREA
.
Okay, so those in Berea were more noble, because they:
.
1. “Received the Word with all readiness of mind.”
.
2. “And searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
.
And so, the Bereans were ready to receive new teachings, which no doubt, conflicted with the supposed, “orthodox” teachings of that day.
.
Thus there was an open-mindedness which permeated their hearts, and a willingness to search the Scriptures daily, in hopes that these seemingly new teachings were indeed true!

“AND HE SHALL THINK TO CHANGE TIMES AND LAWS”
Daniel 7:25
.
In the 25th chapter of Ellen White’s book, “The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan”, the author discusses the 7th-Day Sabbath and how it was unlawfully changed to Sunday.
.
And the history recited in this chapter gives the reader a clear-eyed account of how Satan employed the apostate churches of Europe to affect the changing of the 7th-Day Sabbath to the 1st day of the week.

THE 2ND BEAST POWER OF REVELATION 13
.
But along with history past, the author then proceeds into history future, in which the United 
States of America is proclaimed to eventually become the second beast-like power of Revelation 13, which the Bible refers to as, “The False Prophet”. Revelation 20:10
.
And then the author ties both the Sabbath and the United States to the end-time prophecy concerning the “Mark of the Beast”, and how Sunday observance will ultimately become that universally dreaded “Mark”.
.
And this chapter goes on to say that the United States will eventually force the inhabitants of the world to worship the 1st Beast by their observance of the 1st Day, instead of the 7th Day Sabbath.

AN UNCANNY FORECAST OF THE FUTURE!
.
Well, this prediction by the author is nothing less than amazing, considering that it was written over 130 years ago, when the United States was still holding true to Christianity, to a certain extent. Yes, this chapter makes a remarkable prediction that the United 
States would eventually give itself over to wickedness.
.
And isn’t it so true that we are right now seeing a rapid transformation of this nation into an immoral Sodom-like society?
.
Yes, the very nation which was built on the foundation of the Bible is now transforming into a anti-christian society immersed in immorality and corruption, to a great extent!
.
And Ellen White’s prediction that this would all happen, places a great exclamation mark on the validity of her oft-maligned ministry.
.

WE NOW HAVE A MUCH BROADER PERSPECTIVE
.
Now having said all this, it must be remembered that she saw this nation’s future history from 
her vantage point back in the 1800’s.
.
But we now have the great advantage of seeing these same previously predicted Bible prophecies being fulfilled in our day.
.
And so, the current state of world affairs helps us to gain a much clearer and broader perspective than she had, back in her day.

“WE WENT FORTH AND PROCLAIMED THE SABBATH MORE FULLY”
.
But in regard to the 7th Day Sabbath, she wrote in another place…“And at the commencement of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully. This enraged the churches and nominal Adventists, as they could not refute the Sabbath truth. And at this time God’s chosen all saw clearly that we had the truth, and they came out and endured the persecution with us.” Early Writings, p. 33
.
Notice that she said here that just prior to the end, the Sabbath would be proclaimed “more fully”. And this proclamation would enrage “the churches and nominal Adventists”.

ATTEMPTING TO KEEP THE LETTER OF THE LAW
.
Well, if there is one thing that nominal Adventists almost totally agree on, is that the 7th 
Day Sabbath is from sundown Friday night to sundown on Saturday!
.
In other words, when the Sabbath is proclaimed “more fully”, nominal Adventists will be enraged.
.
But why will this enrage them?
.
Because the third angel’s message proclaims that the true Sabbath is not merely a one-day-per-week rest from physical labor, but instead, a 24/7/365 spiritual rest which all true worshipers of Christ enjoy! In other words, the true Sabbath is summed up in the verse which says, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” Colossians 1:27.

THE SABBATH IS A SPIRITUAL REST
.
Yes, it is the indwelling of Christ, via the Holy Spirit which constitutes the true Sabbath Rest that remains “to the people of God.” (see Hebrews 4:9)
.
And most nominal Adventists are very vocal advocates of the letter of the law concerning the 4th Commandment. That one-day-per-week Sabbath is very important to many 
nominal Adventists! And they would absolutely recoil at the mere suggestion that the Sabbath was fulfilled in Christ, Him now becoming our true Sabbath Rest.
.
But listen to Jesus…“Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
.
This above invitation given straight from the lips of Jesus, calls all who are weary and heavy burdened to come and learn all about Him, taking His light yoke upon themselves, and wearing it as they follow Him by faith!
.
This is the true Sabbath!
.

Next is the Revelation 12 Dragon: “And there appeared another wonder (sign) in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.” Revelation 12:3, 4.

Of course, this dragon represents Satan as he battles against Heaven. And as you can see, this dragon is spewing a wave of water from his mouth. This also is from Revelation 12…
