There is great confusion in the Christian world as to exactly what is our relationship to the Old Testament and its many statutes.

One radio show host divided the Old Testament laws into three categories: the moral law, the civil law, and the ceremonial law. Nowadays, many Bible teachers also add the health laws.

“ADD THOU NOT, NEITHER DIMINISH OUGHT!”

.

But the problem with all this theological categorizing is that they are unwittingly adding to the Bible, names which God never named.

.

In other words, just like Abram & Sarai tried to help God by their wicked plan to conceive a child through adultery, so likewise, today’s theologians try to “help God out” by attempting to analyze the Bible according to fallible, human understanding.

.

But God warns us not to add to His infallible Word, nor diminish ought from that same Word.

.

And so, the Christian must never attempt to add nor take away from God’s finished Word. Oh yes, teachers may attempt to interpret the Bible, as long as we proclaim that our interpretations are not infallible. But the practice of adding non-biblical names to Scripture cannot be biblically supported!

“If any man…add…God shall add unto him the plagues…herein”

Revelation 22:18

But even more than this “adding to and diminishing ought”, these erring teachers now falsely claim that New Testament Christians are not required to obey the so-called civil, ceremonial, and health laws.

.

At best, some might concede, “Well, only the moral law is now to be obeyed by Christians”! 

.

This even makes their transgression more grievous to God, and becomes a stumbling block for churchgoers!

ALL SCRIPTURE TO BE OBEYED!

What today’s Bible teachers and theologians do not understand is that the entire Bible is valid for today’s Christian.

.

Listen…“All scripture is given by inspiration of God,

and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,

for instruction in righteousness: T

hat the man of God may be perfect,

thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

2nd Timothy 3:16, 17

.

All Scripture is profitable and very relevant to the Christian and is to be obeyed.

“Yet the LORD hath not given you…eyes to see, and ears to hear” Deuteronomy 24:4

Now, this is where the current-day Bible teachers and theologians go wrong.

.

In today’s apostate church-world, there is a spiritual blindness which forbids most of the Christian community from seeing the spiritual nature of the Bible. They do not perceive that the Old Testament is the Gospel of Jesus, howbeit veiled in allegories, proverbs, types, shadows and symbols. Today’s Christian teachers and theologians even forbid Christians from interpreting the Bible spiritually, for the most part.

And so, when the Old Testament speaks of earthly things, to a great extent, they cannot see the heavenly meaning.

” Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in…the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt”

This above verse speaks of a yearly celebration of Israel’s exodus from their hard bondage in Egypt. But even though Christians do not literally celebrate this feast, we nevertheless are informed by Paul…

“Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven,

neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness;

but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

1st Corinthians 5:8

This verse reveals the true meaning of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. It actually represents the Christian who shuns all the unbiblical philosophies, false church-doctrines, maxims, traditions, and ungodliness of the world, clinging ever-so tenaciously to the Bible-and-the-Bible-only!

.

And so, this one mere example (along with so many other New Testament fulfillments about various Old Testament laws), gives us a giant clue as to how we must spiritualize away all the other types, shadows, allegories, and parables found throughout the Old Testament!

.

And by comparing Scripture with Scripture, and spiritual things with spiritual, we can find more and more about God’s truth and His divine will for our lives! This is the true “hidden Manna”, all hidden away in the Old Testament.
